Shijiazhang

Lately my travels in China have been fairly close to home. Shijiazhang is a provincial capital only about 4 hours from Beijing (via the slow train). This is definitely not a tourist town, but often the nontouristy towns are also worth visiting, and can be interesting in their own right.

I'm finding that the trains vary wildly in China. Going to Shijiazhang the train was clean, pleasant, and even included fresh flowers in the berth. On the other hand the return train was crowded and dirty, with lots of smokers.

Beijing West Train Station.

Not a whole lot to do in Shijiazhang, but since it's a provincial capital it does have a great museum.

Seems that the museum is also used as a practice area for future models.

And Shijiazhang's People's Park is also worth checking out, especially since the trees are now in blossom.

Returned to Beijing on a cold snowy night. In China there is a switchover period from heat to AC and vice versa, i.e., you don't get both at the same time. Since we no longer have heat, the house temp has been dipping down to the low 50s.
