Nanjing

From Suzhou, eastern China, it's a short train ride to the city of Nanjing. After checking into my hotel room (which was kind of shabby and smelled of stale cigarette smoke), then requesting a change, I got a room with a fantastic city view.

My room "upgrade" was to a Ladies Only room (the hotel also has Men Only rooms). All rooms on this floor are supposed to be occupied by females, and in the closet are pink nighties instead of the standard robes. I found the room to be cleaner, did not smell like cigarette smoke, and the bathroom area didn't smell of urine (which is sometimes the case in Chinese hotels). For whatever reason, male Chinese often have bad aim:

This little robot is capable of having conversations in Chinese. I'd love to have one at home to practice speaking Chinese.

Various offerings at a Nanjing temple, including large bottles of cooking oil.

A different kind of tree knot.

24 hour mini streetside gym.

A rainy evening at the Nanjing pedestrian street, near the famous Confucian temple.
